Cathy Patterson was an investment banker with an impressive career on Wall Street that spanned from 1987 to 1996. Cathy served as Vice President at Shearson-Lehman New York before becoming the Managing Director of Nomura Securities International. She was responsible for establishing Nomura Asset Capital Corporation and Nomura Asset Securities Corporation. Cathy is renowned for providing strong visionary leadership and developing teams that produce consistently superior performance.
Her exposure ranges from capital markets to real estate, mortgage and asset-backed securities. She also practiced law, specializing in complex banking and capital market transactions including securities offerings with derivative companion classes and legislative matters regarding the regulation and suitability and other investment instruments.
Cathy Patterson is a member of the Board of Directors of H. Pierson Associates. She has extensive knowledge of the African and Emerging Market economic and operating environments.
She has several degrees, including a Doctorate degree from the Harvard Law School, a Masters in Business Administration from George Washington University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Industrial Relations from Minnesota State University and a degree in Commercial Real Estate Investment analysis from New York University.
Sharon is the CEO and Founder of Genius Boards UK, a highly respected board effectiveness and board governance consulting firm. She is a Chartered Director, Institute of Directors, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Business Management, she has a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Diploma in Company Direction.
At the Institute of Directors (IoD), she served as a member of the Board of Examiners, a Board member for the Certificate and Diploma exams, Interviewer for the Chartered Director Program and a member Steering Committee for development of Occupational Standards in Corporate Governance and Secretarial.
Sharon has two decades of experience working as a contracted specialist to top 500 level companies in the arena of risk management, particularly treasury risk management. Her clients have included Dimension Data, Datatec, Tongaat Hewlett, Panasonic, Nashua, MTN, Telkom, Richards Bay Minerals, Beacon, Plascon.
Sharon’s experience in risk management at the Board level of more than 250 leading corporates and her knowledge of regulations, international finance, corporate governance, have together provided her with an ability to work with Boards on more than one level – strategic, risk, governance and management. This experience enables her to support Chairmen and Non-executive Directors (NEDs) in their strive to improve the leadership by and challenge within their Boards. She has strong analytical skills to complement her communication skills and uses this to help support change within Boards.
